Water Turbidity Lab Report

We collected water samples from Zoo Miami to determine how much Turbidity and Dissolved Oxygen our samples had. Our water samples were from the Amazon Lake and the Giraffe Enclosure, and we can say that the Giraffe Water is more turbid since the water has excrement and probably urine from the Giraffes. The Amazon Lake has more dissolved oxygen since the lake has a population of fish and probably algae and plankton. II. INTRODUCTION We collected water samples from the Amazon Lake and Giraffe Enclosure in Zoo Miami, which was used to determine how much Turbidity and Dissolved Oxygen (DO) is in our water samples. Turbidity is the measure of clarity of any kind of liquid, and materials that can cause water to be highly turbid can be organic or inorganic matter, plankton, algae, etc. Turbidity makes water look cloudy or opaque. Dissolved Oxygen refers to levels of free non compound oxygen in the water, if a body of water is too high or too low of levels of dissolved oxygen, it can harm aquatic life and affect the water quality. By our results, The Giraffe Water was more Turbid than the Amazon Lake Water, probably because the Giraffe Water could have contained urine or excrement …show more content…

We obtained our samples from two locations, firstly, in the Amazon Lake, it is a eutrophic lake, so that means that it has life, probably algae and plankton. Lastly, we obtained another sample from the Giraffe Enclosure, which the water can have urine or excrement from the Giraffes. After a week or so, in the Day Thursday, November 30th of 2017, we tested our water samples in the Richmond Campus, and to test the results, we used equipment like Turbidity and Dissolved Oxygen sensor, which was used to calculate how much turbidity and dissolved oxygen the samples water have. For both the samples, we put them in the sensors and elapsed it for 3 minutes for then later we can get
