Technology gives me the opportunity to learn more effectively both in and out of the classroom. I am a physics major here at Wayne State University, and saying technology has impacted my academic career is an understatement. Whether it be for taking notes in class, reviewing previous lectures, solving complex problems, or conducting research, technology has significantly benefitted my life. Since enrolling here at Wayne State, many of my professors have begun to upload their lectures, handouts, and notes online. Being able to access these materials before and after their associated lecture enables me and many students like me to prepare for lectures in advance, review pertinent information, and formulate questions on topics that we want to learn more about. Having access to the internet is obviously of major use in this regard, and I couldn’t count the number of times it has helped me understand a …show more content…
I have spent many summers and a few semesters of independent study conducting research here at Wayne State in a variety of fields ranging from Pharmaceutical Sciences to Particle and Nuclear Physics. Yet, despite their varying degrees of separation they are closely tied by the technological dependence required for their advancement. Calculating coefficients in multi-term Lagrangian models of scattering cross-sections for particle physics is something generally reserved for graduate students or postdoctoral scholars. But thanks to programs like Wolfram Mathematica and MATLAB these calculations are significantly easier to perform, and in many cases, can be performed from home. Similarly, conducting data analysis in a research lab, or even just a standard lab course has been made easier by programs such as GraphPad Prism, and the entire Microsoft Office Suite. In fact, the advanced modern physics lab course I just completed took advantage of the Microsoft Notepad online application provided through Wayne
