Eye witnesses are considered to be the best form of evidence in an unsolved case. Mr. Cotton was convicted primarily by an eyewitness named Jennifer Thomson-Cannino, who was sure she identified the right male. Years go by and the case was re-ruled and the jury ruled Jennifer 's description as a misidentification.
Even when Michael’s new defense team, through the innocence project, found a crime that was eerily similar to the method of murder and subsequent events to the one that Michael was convicted of, the new prosecutor in Williamson County fought hard to keep DNA testing from taking place, even stating that they objected to the testing now because the defense hadn’t requested it before (Morton, 2014). Authorites said that Eric Williams had stole some computer equipment and he was very upset cause that coast him his law license and job. The court has now found evidence on Eric Williams and said that he killed the people in two different incidents and Eric wife Kim testified and said she drove the getaway car and help him destroy the weapons.

The boy was dared to go inside this store and whistle at her. Emmett till was from the north you were able to do that from where he came from. Stanley “Tookie” Williams III is a prime example of two things: the power and glory of God and the devastating effects of juvenile delinquency. When reading Williams’ occupations of murderer, thief and philanthropist it is a testament to someone giving their heart to the Lord. The Atlanta Child Murders was a horrific event that took place in Atlanta, Georgia from 1979 through 1981. A lady named Tayari Jones, wrote a novel called Leaving Atlanta. In this novel, the reader learns what life was like during the murders through the perspective of children. One of the main characters in this novel is Rodney Green. Rodney is a very shy and troubled young boy who is kidnapped during the middle of the story.
In this PBS documentary, The murder of Emmett Till, Stan Nelson illustrates a racial hardship and crime against the African-American community. Lynching is a mob of Caucasian people that hang in African-American in a public place to show white supremacy. Emmett Tills murder trial was completely tried in a completely biased courtroom and there was even circumstantial evidence which places JW Millam and Roy Bryant kidnapping young Emmett Till, whose body was later found. I believe that in this murder and trial we see truly how far hatred and racism can rise by just one simple act. The murder of Emmett Till caused an uprise in the civil rights movement.
The tragedy of Trayvon Martin happened February 26, 2012, in Stanford, Florida. Seventeen-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman. Martin’s death led to a dispute between the state of Florida and George Zimmerman. Prosecutors in this case accused Zimmerman of racially profiling Martin. The defense took the position that George Zimmerman was using self-defense to protect himself from harm’s way.

In a murder case where an 18-year-old, Sarah Johnson was sentenced to life in prison for committing a first degree murder for both her and dad. The case reopened when a retired crime lab technician Michael Howard “testified that whoever shot Diane and Alan Johnson at close range on September 2, 2003, would have been hit by a "rain" of blood spatter” (http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/03/03/johnson/index.html?eref=sitesearch). Howard came up with his theories proving that, Sarah was not even close in committing those murders and it is a wrongful conviction. Based on blood spatter, Howard disclosed that the shooting which took place was at a very close range and blood would have been all over the assailant, where as there was no blood pattern found on Sarah’s clothes. In fact, the pajama pant, Sarah was wearing on the day of shooting had no trace of her parent’s DNA or blood.
Wrongful convictions are one of the most worrisome and tragic downsides to the Canadian Criminal Justice System. As stated by Campbell & Denov (2016). “cases of wrongful convictions in Canada call into question the ability of our criminal justice system to distinguish between the guilty and innocence” (p. 226). In addition, wrongful convictions can have devastating repercussions on the person, who was found guilty, effecting their personal/public identities, beliefs and family lives. This essay will be examine some of the common factors that apply to the conviction of an innocence person.
