Plate Tectonics There were two main reasons scientists studied about Earth’s Interior. The first way scientists learned about Earth’s Interior was rock samples. The other way was seismic Waves. They get rock samples by drilling into Earth and rocks fly to the top. They study seismic Waves on how they travel through Earth. They mostly study there speed and path. These are the two ways scientists studied Earth’s Interior. Crust,Mantle, and Core There are three main layers of Earth. One of the layers is the crust. The crust is what we stand on. The crust is thickest under mountains and thinnest under the ocean. The crust is 5 to 70 kilometers long. The crust that is under the ocean is made up of basalt. There is also something called …show more content…
The first one is radiation. Radiation is when energy is transfered through space to Earth. You can not see this substance and you can not make contact with it either. The second one is conduction. Conduction is when heat tranfers to one object to another. An example is When a metal spoon gets heated while sitting in a hot bowl of soup. The third is convection. Convection is when heat is transfered by the movement of currents in a fluid. This substance is made up of liquid and gasses. Those are the three types of heat …show more content…
There are three main reasons scientists found evidence of seafloor spreading. The first is molten material. They find this at the bottom of the ocean next to mid ocean ridges. This material looks like pillows and toothpaste being squeezed out of a tube. Scientists made a submarine named Alvin to go to the bottom of the ocean floor and investigate this material. The second way was magnetic stripes. These stripes prove that Earth’s magnetics field has reversed in history. Scientists also studied magnetic memory in rocks. The final piece of evidence is drilling samples. For this process scientists built a ship called The Glomar Challenger that drilled into the ocean floor and brought up samples to the surface. It could dig down to six kilometers
