Racism is one of the major worldwide issues but what does it denote? Racism (in other words racial discrimination) is prejudice, discrimination, or hostility directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. To begin with, many people think racism doesn’t exist these days. Racism today is found but not in the form of slavery as commonly known in history. Mainly, there are three types of racism: individual, institutional, and structural. Surprisingly, many people are unfamiliar with the causes of racism. Three of the universal causes of racism are the psychological cause, frustration, and rapid change. Racism has devastating effects on our society and victims including psychological pain, social conflict, harassment, cruelty, low self-esteem, hatred, and fear. As a way of finding a solution to racism, governments take many initiatives to remove racism in all nations but the issue is way too controversial and complex to handle. …show more content…

Firstly, Individual racism is when one person or group discriminates against a certain race. It can be of many forms such as prejudice, cultural heritage, skin color, religion and so on. Secondly, as expressed in the practice of social and political institutions, Institutional racism is when a society or organization promotes racism. It is reflected in disparities regarding education, political power, healthcare, housing, employment, criminal justice, among other things. Finally, Structural racism is the racial bias among institutions and across society. The immense number of portrays of people of color as criminals in mainstream media.
