There are many things that can impact the human mind in many different ways. Our minds are constantly coming up with hypothetical situations and circumstances that we either wish to happen or are absolutely terrified it will. Fiction also creates these situations and circumstances expect those words are put on paper and right in front of your eyes. That is why both fiction and reading are blessings we often don’t take enough advantage of.
My absolute favorite piece of fiction is We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. It’s about this young girl, Cadence, who goes on vacation each summer to this beach with 3 friend’s she’s grown up with. I’m just not much of an emotional person. This book had me in tears, though. That was when I knew I was very impacted by this book. I can’t necessarily relate to the characters much or the storyline, I can relate to the words. The way these words are effortlessly formed together to create such a form of art, I fell in-love with the words the same way Cadence fell in-love with Gat. The words that the characters said and the words that were just plainly written in between it all. The book constantly mentioned the universe and I am such a space nerd, it really drew me in. It mentioned the universe not really in astronomy terms, but in terms of life and struggles. “The universe was good because he was in it” (Lockhart, 126). I fell in-love with not only the words but the meaning of the words. A good reader can always see a deeper meaning into the words even of the words are already very deep. There will always be a deeper meaning, you just have to look for it. This book impacted me because it allowed me to let down my walls and allow myself to get emotional. I realized that I actually could let myself feel emotions other than anger and happiness and that book was such a remarkable way to do it. We Were Liars is a piece of authentic
