What shaped the person you are today? In the past, people often think that environment, books, or parent’s genes are the factors that shape people’s identities or how people think. However, now, there is one new leading factor that is heavily influencing people’s lives and perspectives, which is technology. People in current societies have been too used to the fast-paced advancements and changes of technology that people don’t often notice how their perspectives have already been modeled differently. Every technology, even a small piece of invention can be very influential. Weight scales have created a new way for people to look at their weight. Before weight scales are commonly used by the public, the term weight simply just means heavy or light. People could only tell whether a person is fit or not only by looking at the person’s appearance. However, after the invention of weight scales, people’s weight can now be identified or classified by numbers. These numbers allow people to have some measurements of their body conditions. Without weight scales, people would not be able to keep track of their own weight. For example, a person may be on a diet, but without a weight scale, the person would not be able to know if the person’s weight loss diet is working or not in the short term. The weight scales provide humans a way to instantly get access of their data of their own weight. It would be hard to tell whether if the person’s weight loss diet is working or not just by the appearance as depending on the person’s genes, it may be hard to observe the changes in appearance since humans have no control in deciding where they want lose or burn fat. Even though, men and women may interpret weight differently, their final goals are the same which is to increase their attraction. For men, higher body weight means getting stronger in terms of physicality because muscles are heavy due to its higher density than fat. In a transforming world where the majority of women find men with big and ripped muscles attractive, being more muscular has become something that many men strive for. For men, heavier weight means higher self-quality. Weight acts as an indicator showing whether a male is bulkier than another male or not. In the case of women, their viewpoints on weight are the opposite than those of men. For women, less weight means higher self-quality or attraction. This may be caused by the different expectations people have on men and women. In this modern society, men’s appearance is less important than the men’s ability to make money. However, for women, they see appearance as something that is very important and will do anything that they can to increase their appeal such as being skinnier. When weight scales don’t exist yet, women didn’t care about their weight because there wasn’t a way to measure it.
