Picture Arnold Schwarzenegger bench pressing 440 pounds in the midst of his prime. Imagine John Ross running a 4.22 second 40-yard dash during the 2017 NFL combine. Crazy numbers right? Now, imagine how long they have been consistently working toward their goals. Needless to say, they had not gotten to this point without long days of weight training; however there might be a few questions that would come to mind. How did they recover from failure? How young were they started weight training? At this age, were they prone to injury? How did they stay healthy enough to perform throughout the years of weight training? And, How young is too young? While some people are worried about starting too early, proper technique and nutrition, early weight training in adolescents can prevent injury and psychological issues, not only in sports but in every aspect of life. Many parents want their kids to be very successful in life, which means that they will to anything for their kids to have an advantage over anyone else so that they stand out. What kind of lifts should they do? And, what would be beneficial? Kids should not only use pin-loaded machines, but they should also use free weights. However, before they use free weights they must perfect their form, (doing air squats, bench press with no weight and deadlifts with no weight). Squats work the quadriceps and play a vital role in muscular growth in the legs. Bench press works the pectoral muscles and triceps, mainly used for upper body strength. Deadlifts or, the kings of all lifts, plays a part in developing the hamstrings and lower back muscles. Deadlift also releases the most HGH or, human growth hormone, which is needed for muscular growth.
