I am a recent April graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. I completed my Bachelors of Science in Nursing through the accelerated Transition to Nursing Program (TTN). This fourteen-month program provoked confidence, resiliency, and a love for critical care nursing. Indiana Wesleyan University instilled the notion of being a World Changer. The MICU requires a broad skill set. Being able to switch gears quickly and being able to critically think is imperative. With the MICU, I will be able to see the broken and tattered. Observing an individual who is at their lowest and being able to help rectify and eradicate the ailment… That assertion is what led me to the path of Critical Care. Critical Care is intense and at times physically and emotionally draining, but it is worth it. I want to know the patient and be the nurse who makes it evident that they are loved, important, and deserving of the best care. In the MICU, tragedies tend to outweigh the success stories. Death is inevitable. Mistakes will occur, and I will lose patients. During the dismal times, I want to be able to say that I did everything that I could to help that life. Learning transpires from every occurrence, however, I want to be apart of a program that will help me in being apart of more success stories.
