Noor Tajik ELA 3OA 14/05/15 Mr. Atchison The Boy Wonder vs. Calder In Mordecai Richler's The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, the novel's theme revolves around success. Specifically, the journey the main character Duddy takes to attain this dream of being amongst the upper class. Duddy Kravitz is a middle class man, but his character always has been impressed by money. He had many role models who portrayed this image of a rich Canadian man, two of which he began to apprentice. The first man is one he grew up admiring, The Boy Wonder, the man who made his name and went from rags to riches.
However, people are blind to the fact that August is actually a wonderful person. This relates to chapter 14 of, How to Read Literature Like a Professor. In this chapter, Foster explains that there are many novels where there is a disfigured character who faces any challenges but are great people. This chapter greatly relates to Wonder. For example, throughout the whole book, August faces many challenges such as bullies and fake friends, however, none of them realize what a great person August actually is.
PER REPORTER: On 10-5-2015 Paulette (bio-mom) told the reporter that Wonder (foster parent) allows her grown sons to baby-sit Sanya and Jamarion. Paulette told the reporter that Wonder goes out to the club a lot. Paulette said that Wonder’s sons are drug users and one of them was supposed to have been molested Sanya. The names of Wonder’s sons are unknown.
October 24, 2017- Wonder Summary pages 1-20 Today I will be writing about the book called Wonder by R.J. Palacio. The book is about a young boy named August, who looks unique, finds out that he’s going to school for the first time, he finds out at his best friend’s, Christopher's house, a person at his house gives a test, which Auggie (August) thinks that the test is an IQ test, and it really is a test to see if Auggie can get into a school. His mother believes that he should go to school, even though his father, and Auggie doesn’t want to go. The day afterward Auggie gets to meet the principal, Mr.Tushman, on the drive to meet the principal, Auggie’s father makes jokes about his professor Miss.
In “Wonder”, the author RJ Palacio writes from the perspective of August, to give the reader levels of insight and empathy for the main character. August goes through the ringer on a daily basis just to try and earn his education “Rat Boy. Freak. Monster. Freddy Kruger.
In this novel wonder by R.J. Palacio, she wrote about a 10 year old boy that finds himself challenged in his difference in appearance from others. For example, August says “ I wish that I had a normal face that no one notices” pg 1. This shows that August was self conscious about his face when he is at school and walking down the streets . August was singled out when he went to school and everywhere he goes. When August said“ he didn't want to sit next to me because I was too messy with my food” pg 67.
Wonder, it teaches you to not judge a person by how they look. Before the author, R.J. Palacio wrote the book she realized that it’s wrong to bully others by how they look. She wrote the story as a realistic fiction. Which means that she has experienced something that is like what happened in the book. Kids don't often know when there being rude but Julian in the book knew he was being very rude to Auggie by how he looks.
I think that the theme of the book Wonder the author (R.J Palacio) is trying to send out to the readers is to always be kind to one another no matter how they look, act, or because of their size. Charlotte, Julian, and Jack Will all helped Auggie around before school started and Julian was being a jerk to him because of the way he looked. He even said “whats the deal with your face? I mean, were you in a fire or something?”. Jack was his best friend, he stood up for Auggie, even though he talked bad about Auggie to Julian.
Everyone should look up to someone. In Wonder by R.J. Palacio, a boy with a deformed face starts going to school at grade five. The boy is August. The Principal picked three students (Jack, Charlotte, and Julian) to be is tour guide because it was his first time going to a real school.
The main purpose of this story is too teach children a lesson on empathy. In other words, it is showing children how it feels to walk in another’s shoes through the use of an inanimate object used primarily by children. Each crayon portrays the emotions of people in an easy and relatable way. It goes through emotions such as anger, frustration, and sadness. In addition to teaching empathy, it also teaches children how to overcome peer challenges and solve problems in a healthy and peaceful way.
The book Wonder by R.J. Palacio, teaches a valuable lesson that people of all ages should learn. I know that sometimes I’m scared and feel weird when people look at me, but I know it was nothing like he went through. Everyday was a new struggle that he had to live through. There are a couple of themes that work with this story like, “Never judge a book by its cover”, or, You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.” These are great quotes that describe the story and how the main character, Auggie, feels.
After a lot of hard work, Auggie began to make friends. Reading this book even changed my perspective on other people and their feelings. So, not only did Auggie achieve his goal, but he helped other people

As the first book in the series, Benedict and the Magic Chameleon (AuthorHouse, 2016) appears as a fun and fantastic origin story of Benedict, a young village boy who obtains the power to change the color of his eyes after he is spat at by a chameleon. He is then advised by the village soothsayer, who warns him against revealing his extraordinary ability or else he risks losing it. It is a known fact that children tend to brag and/or get overconfident about their skills and talents.
One must find the influence and the aid of others to overcome challenges. The movie and book “Wonder” directed Stephen Chobosky by composed by R.J Palacio is a story about a boy named August Pullman who has a face deformity called Treacher Collins Syndrome. This causes his face to be irregular and look different compared to others. Auggie is starting his first day of school after being home school by his mother. As Auggie walked in the school, people were walking away and avoiding being near him.
In R J Palacio’s “Wonder” Olivia Pullman, “Via”, is a sibling to August, the main character. Via has a very interesting and complex personality, in which she both loves her brother, and seeks to find freedom away from him. She is a very bold and almost demanding person throughout the book. Via was a very well written character. She was both over protecting of Auggie and tired of having to protect him.
