Olaf’s in Minnesota. The next summer he worked in Lake Superior where he met a wealthy man named Dan Cody. The young Gatsby rowed out to Cody’s yacht and warned him of an impending storm. Cody took a liking to Jay and made him his personal assistant. After traveling with him to the Barbary Coast and West Indies Gatsby soon fell in love with the wealth and luxurious lifestyle that Cody held. Being that his parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people, Gatsby was determined to make something of himself and was going to dedicate himself to becoming a successful and wealthy man, just like Dan
