What leads to the different result of the Westernization Movement and Meiji Restoration?
Many reasons are connected with the difference.
Firstly, Japan established the imperial power. The essence of the Meiji Restoration in Japan was to re-establish the uniqueness of the imperial power, and to complete the centralization. New regime helped new policy to implement. The task of centralization of China has been completed as early as the Qin Dynasty. The imperial power in China was in stability with less dynamic.
Secondly, the external environment was benefit to Japan. Japan had fewer resources to plunder. But China ' s vast resources and huge markets had become the coveted goal of the West.
Thirdly, the target of revolution was different. In the Meiji Restoration, Japan saw its own weaknesses, and wanted to change. The Westernization Movement focused on government officials’ benefit, in order to obtain more political capital from the reform movement. The vested interests were belong to political groups.
