What About Bob? In the movie “What About Bob?” it’s easy to recognize that Bob Wiley has multiple phobias, but his “doctor” Leo Marvin, a middle aged male, has a narcissistic personality disorder. Marvin takes a break from writing his book and therapy job to go on vacation with his sweet and suggestible family. Work could not be separated from home as Dr. Marvin’s most recent patient, follows him on his vacation. One night during dinner Marvin could only talk to his family about the Good Morning America interview he has the next day for his big book and how Bob was a burden in the way of his successes. It didn’t help when Bob took the best breast of the chicken during dinner; everybody else in the family knew Marvin the man is used to getting his way. Marvin is not only in a constant fight with Bob, but has a long standing beef with his neighbours because he bought out the best beach house from them. At the climax of the movie, the house blew up and a bust of Marvin’s own head landed on the lawn. It was pretty funny. …show more content…

It is a disorder because it is a pattern of thoughts, feelings, and actions that are deviant, distressful, and dysfunctional. It’s ironic that Bob went on in life to become a psychologist, because he pointed out that Marvin is insensitive, and said “we just gotta figure out a way to work around [Marvin’s] schedule.” The movie “What About Bob?” is supposed to be about Bob, yet all I think about when I think of this movie is Marvin
