Ludwig van Beethoven (December 16, 1770 - March 26, 1827), was a German pianist and a widely known composer who was considered “the greatest of all time”. Beethoven did many great things in his career as a composer, including being the crucial figure that was connecting Classical and Romantic ages of Western music. Many people who listened to Beethoven’s music didn’t know that he was totally deaf when he composed some of his greatest pieces. At an early age, Beethoven had an interest in music. So his father started teaching him day and night. Soon Beethoven’s father realized how much of a gift his son had for music. He wanted Beethoven to be a musical prodigy and the next Wolfgang Mozart. Music was a big part of Beethoven, even when he was just a young boy. At the age of 7, Beethoven performed a public solo on his piano, for the first time, at Cologne. Gottlob Neefe (German composer and conductor) noticed Beethoven’s special gift and took it into his hands to teach the boy more about music. Gottlob Neefe was a great help to Beethoven and was an inspiration to Beethoven. Beethoven also looked up to Mozart and always wanted to play piano for him, in person.
