Ray Charles is an American singer, pianist, composer, and bandleader who is often referred to as ‘The Genius’. He earned many awards and achievements despite his vision disability. His “crossover” to pop and jazz has earned him one of the top positions on the R&B and pop charts. Ray Charles Robinson was born on September 23, 1930, in Albany, Georgia. He commenced his musical career at the age of 5. He began to go blind at the age of 6 and was completely blinded by the age of 7. He attended the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine, where he learned to read, write, and sort out pieces of music. Later, he focused on his musical education and learned to play the piano, organ, sax, clarinet, and trumpet. In 1948, at the age of 16, he moved to Seattle, where he formed the “Mcson Trio” with guitarist G.D “Gossie” McKee and bass player Milton S. Garrett and performed with them. Charles released his first single “Confession Blues” with the Maxin Trio (same as Mcson Trio), and the song went well on the R&B charts (R&B is a ranking system for rhythm and blues and hip hop songs in the US). He obtained more success on “Baby Let Me Hold Your Hand”, “Kissa Me Baby” and many more. He landed a deal with Atlantic Records, and celebrated his first R&B hit with the title, Mess Around.
