Recorded between 6 April and 21 June 1966 Revolver is one of the most iconic record of the Beatles. Revolver was release after the record Rubber Soul and marks the transition of the Beatles between pop rock music and a more psychedelic type composition with a lot of improvisation and experimentation. From the use of psychotropic drugs like LCD, to the implementation of exotic instruments, Revolver is one of the most complex and innovator record of the Beatles.

In 1965 after the Us summer tour, the Beatles decided to take a three months off period which gave the band members an opportunity to work in personal projects, and prepare material for the new production. They were looking to create something hard to be performed live. One of the main innovations this record had was the ADT or automatic double tracking. The ADT uses the tape recorders to create a double of the vocals delaying one signal. This was implemented during the recording of the album because John Lennon was not good at doubling vocals. Another big innovation found in Revolver is the way the bass guitar was recorded. Instead of using a microphone Geoff Emerick the recording engineer used a loudspeaker to record the bass guitar. Finally on the drum group they compress the drums using a limiter.

As a listener revolver is a new sound and from the era it is a total innovation. The different instruments used like the sting octet on Eleanor Rigby, or the Indian music on Love you to give the record unique characteristics and personality. Revolver it’s a fresh sound for the era. As an industry professional the new techniques developed for this album like ADT give the industry new tools to work with.
