Around the world there are many social expectations, there were social expectations back in the 1930’s and there still are some today. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The author makes an argument that people should not be expected of anything no matter race or gender, and people should have the freedom to do what they want without judgement. During the 1930’s where the story takes place, certain things were expected in Maycomb for women, but Scout is breaking those barriers. Scout has never been like the other girls, in Maycomb she wants to do the things that get you dirty. She hangs out with her brother and does dangerous stuff, gets in fights on the playground, and is never found to wear a dress. Her argument is that all people should have freedom no matter who they are without judgement or discrimination. This is a good argument because this is the way all people should be treated. No one should be expected of anything, no matter who you are. The argument on this topic relates to events that happen today, for example men are expected to be better than woman, because they are considered stronger and smarter, so they get paid more for having the same jobs. In reality though, strength and knowledge have nothing to do with you gender. Also another example is how your race determines your level in society. This means how much you get paid, how many friends you have, and whether you're an all around good person. Most people think if you're white you're rich and have everything, and the other races are poor. This is not true because these things should have nothing to do with race it really depends on your personality.
