This article talks about the expedition of Christopher Columbus. The author talks about the goal and how did Christopher plan for this journey. He had to persuade the King and Queen of Spain to finance the expedition. His goal was to travel to Asia in search for gold and spices. However he ended up finding an unknown land (America) that were inhabit by the Native Americans. Columbus was immediately welcome by the Indians, but little did they know that they were about to be use. Columbus would round them all up as prisoners and take them back to England. Ultimately, they were sold as slaves for the country. This shows that Columbus took advantages of their kindness and use it for his self-benefits. Even if the Indians decided to fight back, they were overwhelm by the soldiers’ armor, muskets, and swords. Sadly, this lead some of the Indians to commit mass suicide. But this article is a little more detail and I learn a lot more about Christopher Columbus. Columbus didn’t seem care about their human rights as him consider to be manipulative. An example would be one of the writing that they author use to support his topic. “The Indians are so native and so free with their possessions that no one who has not witnessed them would believe it. When you ask for something they have, they never say no.” He pretty much use their kindness or openness to do whatever that he wanted to do. Showing that Columbus felt that he had some sort of power over them. England portray Columbus as the hero who discover this new unexplored land. But they never tell the people of the methods of what he did to this people. It made me think about our current media and the last assignment, “Danger of Single Story”. We will hear one story or tale, but sometimes we don’t get all of the information. Some of this information can either be left out or never
