In today's society, automobiles are a big part of life and nobody really thinks much about them. However, the creation of the automobile had many far-reaching effects on the lives of everyday people. The creation of the automobile caused changes to the production line, caused communities to expand, and caused big cities to grow even bigger and become more popular.
One of the many changes caused by the creation of the automobile was the rise of big cites. The production of the automobile required an increase in the production of products such as steel and glass. This increase in demand cause companies to increase their workforce to keep up with the production needs. After the announcement of the increase in wages, over 12,000 people showed up in person to apply for the job with more than 14,000 people applying through mail1. Due to Ford now paying what he referred to as a living wage, more people were able to afford to own automobiles which increased the demand for them higher than Ford could produce at his current production speed, so Ford had to come up with a way to increase production speed. Ford solution to this dilemma, was to create the first moving assembly line. The moving assembly line revolutionized the way automobile were made. Now, instead of the worker needing a multitude of skills and knowledge about the work he was doing, the worker now simply needed to understand how to do a single and simple task, such as tightening a specific bolt, on the parts that moved along in front of him with the use of a conveyer belt.
