Much of Didion's criticisms in the novel are based on nostalgic and personal feelings and she rarely looks at things from the point view of the new generation. The novel “Some Dreamers of the Golden Dream” is about a murder trial in San Bernardino Valley where a young woman gets into a car accident and ends up being arrested and later it is found out that she was having an affair. With this said Didion makes a handful of references pertaining to things about religion and California. Didion believes religion is a large part in living one's life. There are numerous references to religion whether it’s the first paragraph using vocabulary similar to that used to describe hell, like “wind that comes down through the passes at 100 miles an hour” or how “every voice seems a scream”. The first paragraph talks about all the negative things about living in the San Bernardino Valley in California. Then there’s the second paragraph stating the exact opposite and talking about how lovely the valley is, saying things like, how “The Mormons settled this ominous country … left the first orange tree” and “people --imagined they might live among the talismanic fruit” in other words the fruits from the tree in …show more content…

So it could simply be that Didion had no knowledge of the new generation or how they operated. All of these are possibilities but taking a look at exactly how she doesn’t look at their point of view is where one can decide for themselves whether or not she did. In the specific novel “Some Dreamers of the Golden Dream” it can be inferred that Lucille Marie Maxwell Miller was trying to benefit financially from the killing of her husband. The evidence shows the detectives discovered that the car was in low-gear, found that the gasoline was spilled but the milk was not, the hole the tires dug, and even came to an assumption, she grabbed a stick to try and walk the Volkswagen into the ditch.
