Before the twentieth century arrived, women had very few opportunities in life. Being married, a housewife, and having children were what women could look forward to in life. Although women may have had some say so in their life or even with their household, woman did not have any say so in society. Women did not have much of a political life but enjoyed access to education. Women had fewer career opportunities than the men did. Any properties or asset that she would receive did not belong to her but to her husband, and that included any and all income or inheritance received. The woman 's body was hardly ever considered their own, but their husband 's at this time. During this time, the men were more considered dominant in the world. The most-important job for a woman was being the good parent and wife. The birth rate in the nineteenth century fell, and being a mother became a woman 's fulltime occupation instead of it being both parents. The …show more content…

The growth in educational opportunities for women in the past had clashed. At that time mothers were the educators for young children, the interests of the public were best served by women were able to educate children in the principles of literacy, as well as moral values and virtues. Education became considerately necessary rather than a choice requirement, for females as well as the males, though the reasons for educating younger women had very different expected outcomes. If the girls were lucky, they were allowed to attend "dame schools" and schools funded by the state. But they were not allowed to go to academies or colleges, those types of schools offered better educations to males.
