Studies have shown that both interpersonal and institutional racism impacts upon minority groups, in particular Maori groups in New Zealand. A huge number of studies have been shown to produce results implicating the effects of racism on major health issues in a causal relationship. In New Zealand, our major ethnic groups are approximately as follows; European/Pakeha (80%), Maori (14.7%), Asian (6.6%) and Pacific Islanders (6.5%).
