The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a children’s book written by L. Frank Baum and published by George M. Hill Company on May 17, 1900. The book was the first of its kind causing the first addition of the novel to be reprinted 90,000 times in the first 5 months of publishing. Although the novel is a children’s book, it has an adult factor to it. Historians and economists conclude that the novel is based on political symbolism of the late 19th century and early 20th century (SharePoint).

As Dorothy and her companions defeat the minions, the witch sends her flying monkeys. The monkeys were being controlled by the golden cap, which is said that its owner could command them to whatever he/she wanted three times. The witch commands them to destroy scarecrow and the tin woodman, but to bring back Dorothy and the cowardly lion. The witch has Dorothy in the kitchen and the lion chained. The witch figures out the silvers slippers have secret powers and she tries to trip Dorothy to get the slippers to fall off her feet. Dorothy got furious and dumped a pail of water on the witch. The witch then started to melt, freeing Dorothy, the lion, and the winkies who were enslaved by the wicked witch of the west. They leave the castle and now have control over the golden cap. They use the golden cap to command the monkeys to take them to emerald city. When they arrive to speak to the wizard to get what they wished for, the wizard claims he could not help them. The wizard explained that he was honestly just an old man. He was a ventriloquist and balloonist from Omaha. The old man wanted them to get rid of the witch as for he did not have powers and she did. The old man apologizes to them and tries to help them anyways. By goodhearted manipulation, he gave the tin woodman, scarecrow, and lion what they wanted. A soldier suggests going to see the good witch of the south, Glinda. Dorothy and her companions travel once more, facing more dangerous creatures and obstacles on the way. They finally made it to Glinda’s castle and asked her for a way back home. Glidas tells Dorothy that the silver flippers possessed the power. All she had to do is click her hills together three times and say where she wanted to go. Dorothy gave her the gold cap for the help, and she used the three commands to send the scarecrow back to rule the emerald city, the lion to rule over the beasts on the forest, and the tin woodman to rule over the winkies. Also, she gave the golden cap to the monkeys and set them free. Dorothy said her goodbyes, clicked her hill three times, and then said, “Take me home to Aunt Em!” When she got back to Kansas she ran to her Aunt Em who was surprised and asked where she had been and Dorothy replied she had been in Oz and was glad to be back
