Sean Nelson Grade: 10 Nicolet High School National Honor Society Application The National Honor Society is an organization created with the intent to acknowledge high school students who implement important values into their lives. These values are known as the four pillars of National Honor Society, scholarship, leadership, character, and service. These values are essential to be a well-rounded member of any community. I believe that I have been academically successful throughout my high school years. However, this success did not come naturally to me, it is something I had to work hard to achieve. Over many school years, I have worked to maintain high-grade marks and test scores. At Nicolet, I have maintained a 3.8 GPA in honors and accelerated placement classes. I am very proud of the academic accomplishments I have achieved through challenging myself with difficult courses and balancing my extracurricular activities. I am a member of several clubs and sports. The most demanding of these is hockey. Hockey is a very time-consuming sport that I have loved for all of my life. However, I have always told myself that I am a student first and that playing sports is a privilege. The numerous sports and clubs I have participated in have created relationships and memories that I will hold with me forever. Through trial and error, I have learned how to effectively incorporate these values into my daily life, to be seen as an influential figure. My main area of leadership is through sports. I have coached kids in lacrosse and hockey youth programs and shown what it means to be a dedicated player at a higher level. Additionally, I have been a JV captain for sports such as volleyball and hockey. Through this position, I have been able to create a connection with younger teammates to make them feel comfortable and respected in a new environment. I believe that my character makes me a strong leader. Through my personal beliefs and morals, I can build trust and be viewed as a role model. A team is a family, and I believe that everyone should share a sense of respect for their teammates. I strive for a respected environment amongst my teammates. I have been the new player on a team and from personal experience, I know how beneficial an older team member taking you under their wing can be.
