”In S.E. Hinton’s novel, “The Outsiders”, the quote, “You know what Greasers are?...white trash with long, greasy hair! You know what a Soc is?... white trash with Mustangs and Madras!” was used to show the difference between the “Socs” gang and the “Greasers” gang. However, what if the novel was set in a different time or place? I think it would correlate with the gangs of the 19th century, the Palestine and Israel conflict, and the technological advances of the future. First and foremost, if The Outsiders were set in the past, it would resemble previous gangs of the 19th century. For example, the “Scuttlers” were a group of teenagers across Manchester, England during the late 1800’s. Each area of Manchester had a different set of Scuttlers, usually identifying themselves with a different name. Even though, the different subdivisions were all Scuttlers, they were known to fight over territory with knives, bottles, etc. All this fighting was for one purpose, control. This is similar to the conflict between the Greasers and Socs because both gangs were fighting over dominance in their neighborhood and dwelling on the slight nuances of their image. …show more content…

The conflict between these two nations has been ongoing since biblical times. Two Middle Eastern nations are fighting, brother vs. brother over borders, religion and freedom. Nonetheless, Palestine and Israel are fighting each other when they could be battling nations outside of their country. For example, America, currently mines Middle Eastern oil. This relates to The Outsiders because it involves two gangs which both include teenage rebels who live above the law. Instead, of the Greasers and Socs fighting each other, the gangs could compromise and fight their common enemy,
