Within the novel of The Great Gatsby, the characters are portrayed in a way that they are all flawed in a way. Most would say that they seem empty and that they are missing something within. With the main reason for the character being like was because them being within the upper class. This point is magnified by the film adaption that recently was created that was starring Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio. A similar connection can be made to the Film adaptation of The Hunger Games trilogy that was starring Jenifer Lawrence. While both are film adaptations of high selling books, the directors made the themes within the novels much more evident. The Great Gatsby explicitly separating the upper class character by having the West Egg and East Egg. West Egg and its denizens represent the newly rich, while East Egg and its denizens, especially Daisy and Tom, represent the old aristocracy. Fitzgerald portrays the newly rich as being vulgar, gaudy, ostentatious, and lacking in social graces and taste. In contrast, the old aristocracy possesses grace, taste, subtlety, and elegance. What the old aristocracy possesses in taste, however, it seems to lack in heart. All of this is demonstrated through the film how Gatsby throws large extravagant parties that are comparable to parties we have currently (Show clips of Gatsby’s parites ). Whereas how Jordan Baker and Daisy dress elegantly in white dresses, yet the East Eggers prove themselves careless, inconsiderate bullies who are so used to money’s ability to ease their minds that they never worry about hurting others. The only debatable person who lacks explicit flaws such as these is Nick who is the Narrative figure of the film and has fallen into a depression due to the events of the movie. This clear separation of how people are hollow depending on where they live within the story greatly differs from the Hunger Games. The upper class of the Hunger Games is more grouped all together and are empty the same way except for the few that help the main cast of the film that are not empty as the others. A prime example of this is district 12’s mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, and Katniss’ stylist, Cinna, they find ways to support the main two character being Katniss and Peter within the 74th Hunger games.
