The Difficult Life of Malcolm X Malcolm X was a very troubled man, considering all that he dealt with throughout his life, and only clearly stated with the help of Alex Haley. Malcolm’s life had many heartbreaking, treacherous and even vile moments. Although he made many mistakes in his life, he turned his life around when he was let out of prison. This novel shows the emotion Malcolm was feeling in each event of his life. The Autobiography of Malcolm X is split into three main sections, Malcolm’s early life, his life as a young adult, and finally as an elder, which will be discussed in this essay. Malcolm X’s early life was not easy. The Midwest was full of discrimination at the time of the early 1920s. Racial violence was common in Omaha, Nebraska. Malcolm’s family moved to Michigan where they also experienced oppression and violence. Malcolm and his family began to fall apart. White people murdered Malcolm’s father when he was only six years old. Not long after, his mother went crazy, and was institutionalized. Soon he got shipped off to live with his half-sister, Ella.
