“ I don’t feel any smarter” this is what Charlie said about a week after he got the surgery to make him smarter. He has many pros and cons about getting his surgery. In this essay I have chosen to stay on the more positive side and put the benefits of Charlie’s surgery. Charlie had many positive effects of the surgery, however at certain times there were cons, but most of the time there were pros. For example, he got to experience what it was like to be smart, and have feelings for someone emotionally. After the surgery happened Charlie started to understand more of what was going on around him. For an example ,he would read a book and then he would understand what he was reading about. Also, he started to spell better, you can see a big difference of writing from the first journal to the seventh or eighth journal. Charlie also could understand the feelings that people could express, for example, later in the book he started feeling things for Mrs Kinnian, and he started expressing them in his own form. Another reason why it was beneficial for Charlie to get the operation, he was finally being treated normally not like some special person. Walking normally and speaking normally . Realizing that the world isn’t all fun and games, he started to understand that there are other aspects to the world. As walked into a restaurant he saw a version of himself this version of him was very clumsy and didn’t understand what was going on. He dropped a couple of glasses and people started laughing at him. As Charlie stood around looking at people who were laughing at this poor boy he became very mad, he thought to himself” is that how people treated
