US and Canada Compare & Contrast In today's world, the US and Canada live in peace and harmony, despite their radical differences. The United States and Canada are two countries located in North America—they are the second largest and third largest countries in the world, respectively. The United States and Canada are sister countries that are both similar and different in the way they run their government, the culture of their people, and their history. To start off, the first difference between the government is that the United States's government is classified as a representative democracy. This means that it is a democracy in the sense that the people who make decisions are chosen by the people, but the people themselves do not make decisions. The decisions are made by representatives, hence the name of representative democracy. Meanwhile, Canada's government is a federal constitutional monarchy. To put it simply, this means that while Canada has a monarch, that monarch is restricted by a constitution. The monarch is more of a symbolic head, as opposed to a political head. Canada has a prime minister as the political head. The second difference is that the United States has a president as the political heads.
