The first similarity between Montag and Katniss is that they both conform to their dystopian societies in the beginning of the novels. Montag conforms to his society by being a firefighter that burns all books in their town. “It was a pleasure to burn” (Bradbury). Not only did he burn them in the beginning, but he enjoyed it. Like Montag, Katniss conforms to her society as well by “sacrificing herself for her sister” (Bradbury) in the games.
Chapter five of How To Read Literature Like An English Professor is about how Shakespeare is prominent in both old and current works of literature and in the media. Foster states “He’s everywhere, in every literary form you can think of. And he’s never the same: every age and every writer reinvents its own Shakespeare.” (33). So why Shakespeare?
There are many similarities and differences between the Hunger games and the goonies in the call to adventure, crossing the threshold and the test allies and enemies in the hero's journey. One of the differences between the Hunger games and the goonies for the call to adventure is that in the Hunger games the call to adventure is when Katniss has to save her sister from dying at such a young age whereas in the Goonies the goonies find a map and they think that it would be a perfect time to go on a adventure. Another difference is that in the Hunger games Katniss volunteers as tribute whereas in the Goonies the goonies find a map and they take time to think about what they're going to do.
hunger games, and Goonies are similar and different in many other ways I'll be focusing on the call to adventure in the goonies, the call to adventure is in the addict when they're looking at mickeys dad's stuff and how cool it's in there how they found the map is that there was a whole in this painting and Micky had an idea and told chunk to hold the painting and when the lighting struck he dropped it and said sorry but then there was a map behind the painting and a stone piece that lead them somewhere in The Hunger Games the call to adventure is when prims name gets picked and not even 2 seconds later katniss says she volunteers and wanted to go instead to save her sister Prim so she didn't have to watch her sister in the game and regret her decision and then she just had this thought in her head
Another similarity in Divergent and Uglies is the government. The government is intricately designed and very organized. In both books, they try to overrun the government. In Divergent, the Erudite are trying to overthrow the government and take the power into their hands. In Uglies, there is no direct showing of the people trying to overtake the government, but if you dig deeper, the Smokies who are similar to the factionless are living out of town and defying all laws they can.

It is crazy to think how pop culture can point to the things it works so hard to reject, but in the case of Divergent by Veronica Roth, parallels between it and the gospel abound. Divergent is set in a dystopian Chicago in which the citizens are divided into 5 factions; the brave, the selfless, the intelligent, the honest and the kind. The story follows Tris Prior, a sixteen year old girl who realizes her Divergence, or possession of characteristics of more than one faction. The novel and film adaption of Divergent include many similarities to the gospel, notably the emphasis on a choice of commitment, the concept that we need more than one characteristic to grow, that salvation is brought about through sacrifice, and that humankind is at its heart, evil.

Beowulf Essay After reading both epics, “Beowulf” and the Hunger Games, the similarities and differences between the two become known. Both stories are written for entertainment purposes and to show people about the time the epics are written and their respective cultures. Many people read epics, whether older or more modern day, and don’t even know that they are reading one. This is because most people do not know the definition of an epic or that most Contemporary American books and movies are epics. Although from different time periods, both Beowulf, from the epic poem “Beowulf”, and Katniss Everdeen, from the Hunger Games trilogy, share epic hero characteristics and represent their respective cultures.
The Hunger Games trilogy revolves around universal dystopian themes such as :oppression, rebellion, class tension as well as appearance vs. reality ," Collins creates the world that on one hand seems quite improbable and extreme, but on the other, vividly reflects some specific issues in a real world, like social inequalities, ignorance and passivity of the people" (Macanić 7). Oppression is perhaps the most common and prevalent dystopian theme as it serves as a warning against a highly probable dark future through shedding light on the dark side of contemporary trends such as advanced technology and reality TV-shows .The Capitol 's oppression operates on two levels; districts and individuals. The districts in general and districts 11 and 12 in particular have suffered great injustices at the ruthless hands of the Capitol ; however, there is no greater injustice than The Hunger Games themselves not only are the people of Panem forced to surrender their children as tributes for the Capitol 's citizens viewing pleasure for a crime they had no hand in committing ,but they are also forced to watch helplessly as their children are killed in the most brutal of manners .In Catching Fire (2009) , President Snow decrees that " the male and female tributes will be reaped from their existing pool of victors" in order to get rid of Katniss once and for all ,and to further assert the Capitol 's dominance and quell any thoughts of rebellion(172).
For “The Hunger Games” and “The Handmaid’s Tale”, the structure of Panem and Gilead makes up this difference. In “The Hunger Games”, many citizens of Panem are born into this society. The citizens did not have to adapt to the new rules or workings of Panem because they were born and raised in that world. Whereas in “The Handmaid’s Tale”, all citizens of the Republic of Gilead were the first generation of the society and had to adapt to the new way of life. In Panem their main focus was taking lives to keep your own.
