Although they have many differences, Jinch Malrex shares some similarities with The Farm Show and the theater group which Miles belongs to. The use of collective creation, highlighting the magnitude of the transformative power of art, and the authenticity of the stories were three key similarities between the two plays.
Jinch Malrex was written using collective creation because the intention of the play was to inform people about the corrupt society they live in. The Farm Show also demonstrated collective creation; it was initially performed in a barn in Clinton in front of local residence as their audience who had helped produce the show. Jinch Malrex was set in an entirely different time than The Farm Show, and yet they are similar in the sense that they made a show come into being with the community for the community, about the community. Although Jinch Malrex aims to emphasis the negative aspects of Canadian culture, whilst The Farm Show aimed to highlight the opposite, both used collective creation to develop their shows. “I’ve grown greatly, I’ve realized now that everything I’ve learned I can bring back to my community. While Jinch Malrex expressed the hardship of being raised in the “hood” as a young adult, while The Farm Show demonstrated the life of two farmers, both did so through the art of storytelling which was meant to inspire others to also express themselves through dramatic arts and theater. Both plays definitely had the desired effect because they leave the audience to this day in awe of the theatrical masterpieces that were produced.
