What Are The Similarities Between The Old Testament And Chinese Myths

While examining these myths through the ritualist's perspective, the Old Testament from the book of Genesis and the Chinese myth. Both of these creation stories vary in their views of life after death, and what the afterlife includes. They do both however have a strong emphasis on the importance of nature, and the symbolic use of animals who inflict punishment for sin in a common way. The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast both myths to see the differences and similarities of both.

The first myth that I studied was the Old Testament myth, which can be found throughout the Middle East and many other places across the world. The second myth that I studied was the Chinese myth which originated in ancient China. The Old Testament deals with the creation story that can be found in the book of Genesis in the Christian bible. The one major similarity between the Old Testament and the Chinese myth is the importance of nature and the power that mankind has over everything else in the world. Another similarity that can be seen in both myths is the power and might of the animals that they chose. This shows that they believe that though humans are the highest power on earth, that does not mean they are above everything in the whole universe, they both believe there is a higher being that is even overpowering compared to mankind. The main difference between these two myths is that the Old Testament deals with a monotheistic God who controls everything including humans. The Old Testament also shows that from nothing came a voice that set everything into motion on Earth. In contrast, the Chinese myth deals with the power of the yin-yang that creates everything known and unseen.
