Police brutality has been occurring since the idea of a police officer was first brought up. Officers have found many holes through the law enforcement system. This brings upon many types of misconduct and excessive force. Unfortunately, police officers are not usually held accountable for their brutality. “The Incentive Program, or the method of police chiefs using promises of contraband going to sub-departments that lack the money in the budget, gives officers more incentive to not only plant evidence to make an entire estate contraband, but it also lets them rationalize lining their own pockets” (White).
Two well known real life cases where this have been an issue is in the case of Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin. These two young African American young teens were killed after the shooting of white police officers, which raised an issue of police brutality. People need to realize not all police are racist and should not be viewed that way just like how African Americans should not be viewed as thugs, gang members etc. The only way to end police brutality is if we remove these stereotypes from both sides. Overall there are multiple reason for police brutality which are stereotypes of African Americans, stereotypes for police, and the media. One major stereotype is that all African Americans are violent, aggressive, part of gangs, and do drugs.
One historic example of racial bias in the police force is Dr.King 's march from Selma. In Marion, Alabama on February 18, a group of peaceful demonstrators were attacked by white segregationists. During this attack one of the younger demonstrators, Jimmie Lee Jackson, was killed by a state trooper. In response, Dr Martin Luther King led a 54 mile march early in 1965 in Montgomery, Alabama from Selma that lasted five days to the capital where many oppressed black citizens had been campaigning for voting rights including, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). However, research demonstrates that often times men of color are treated harshly which leads to negative perceptions of police officers. Police brutality is a crime that is has been surfacing in the news recently. Some people are just starting to realize that these injustices against the black community really occur, while others are well aware. The recent shootings, different run-ins with officers being filmed while doing such harmful actions against African American men is an example of police brutality and, that reminds us that as a society work needs to be done to improve police and community relations. A black male cannot even walk down the street on a cold night because he might be a suspect from something or he may be of danger to the people around.

Police brutality is a major problem in our country. Many times it is pushed aside or covered up. Sadly we find that a major reason for all this happens, has to do with racism as well.
Are we protected? Police Brutality is not a racial issue, it’s a social issue. Police brutality is a serious social issue occurring in the United States to say that we are united. This is a vital affair that is needed to be addressed to the three branches of government as soon as possible.
There are several stereotypes that are associated with women in Law Enforcement There are many reasons I chose the stereotype that is associated with the profession I chose to pursue once I receive my Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. Being a woman that wants to work in Law enforcement has affected me in different ways. It has also had an impact on my life. It acts as a barrier when thinking critically and it is important to think critically when it comes to different stereotypes so that you won’t get off track.
Free will is considered to be the capacity to freely choose, think and act for any possible outcome and to not have our future predetermined. Free will, “…is the capacity to so choose or decide to act…” and accept that these “…actions are implemented in the world internally and externally” (Tse, P. 2013. p. 19-22). To be considered self determined is to ultimately accept free will and to distinguish multiple alternatives to each action, thought and decision (Watson, G. 2003 p.1-5).

It’s a topic that segregates communities and makes each other their enemy. Specifically, a white officer has been the enemy of the black community. Unfortunately, the tension between police and blacks grew over the past few decades.
Police racism is a very big problem in America. The killings of Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and Walter Scott are other examples of police racism and brutality as well. Reasons behind police racism and brutality are simple. People still have a certain way that they think about people of color.
