American political parties have become weaker than European political parties. It is because the laws governing parties have taken away most of their powers. This is also because voters have lost their interest and commitment towards joining and participating in party activities. Another contributor to the situation is the inability of these parties to mobilize voters to join them. However, this is not the case with European countries like France and Sweden. These countries have been able to effectively mobilize voters to join political parties and even vote the party ticket.
A party's strength can be assessed according to how well voters can identify with its label, the organization of the party, and the leaders of the party. A party can be categorized as a strong party if its label is appealing to the electorate and if it has an organization which is effective in deciding the candidates for elective posts as well as proper management of campaigns for these candidates. It should also have leaders who can effectively relay the interests of the party in government.
