Writing Prompt #1 The 3 examples of mockingbirds in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird are Atticus, Tom Robinson, and Boo Radley. Atticus is a very good example over the other 2 examples as he is the most influential person in the novel. Atticus shows a mockingbird trait because he is a very helpful person throughout the story. He is also a very calm, collective person with lots of respect. No matter what could happen he was always so chill with the situation. He is respectful to everybody including blacks back in the 1930’s. The 1930’s was a time period of major racism and blacks were labeled lower individuals than whites. Atticus defended a black person, another mockingbird which is Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson was accused of raping Mayella Ewell, a white woman and wife of Bob Ewell. Atticus would defend Tom Robinson at all costs during his case. He would make sure everything was right in his household. Tom Robinson was accused of the raping of Mayella Ewell. He was in fact innocent, but the fact that he is a black man makes his argument equal to a speck of dust with a racist white jury. He made a big mistake of being kind to her as he was lied on about raping her. All Tom did for Mayella was help with the chores around her house that required a man’s strength. Tom Robinson had the sympathy as a black man to feel sorry for Mayella and he stopped to help her knowing what his consequences could be. He was a victim of how prejudice and racist his society was and because of that he didn’t have a fair argument in his trial. His trial brought many arguments outside the courtroom and brings out so many highlights of injustices within the
