The Wachowski brothers 1999 post apocalyptic science fiction the ‘Matrix’ is set in the late twentieth century. We the audience witness to the two sides of the phrase “ignorance is bliss”with the main protagonist Mr Anderson (Neo), and one of the central characters Cypher exploring how they both deal with it making us think of our different reactions and think about the world around us. The Wachowski brothers force the audience to question what is real and is it actually necessary to know what the truth is. They hit us with three examples of how people deal with the sad reality, denial, shock and acceptance with the exception of cypher who accepts it but hates the truth. The Wachowski brothers show when we hear something we don't want to hear, we deny the possibility that it is true and try to un hear it. When Neo finally finds out the truth he has been finding for a long time and denies the fact he has been living in a dream word.
