Opportunity Recognition On September 13, 1969, Emmitt Perry Jr. (Tyler Perry) was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Maxine and Emmitt Perry. As a child, he suffered years of abuse by his father. The abuse situation became so bad that Emmitt Perry Jr. once tried to attempt suicide because he was fed up with what his father was doing to him. At the age 16, Emmitt changed his name to Perry because he no longer wanted the same name as his abusive father. When growing up he did not complete high school but later went on and received his General Education Development (GED). Perry was from job to job all throughout his younger ages. After writing a series of letters, he begins to start working on the musical I Know I’ve Been Changed. He saved up $12,000 and rented out an Atlanta theater in 1992. For this musical, he was the director, producer, promoter, and he also started in the musical himself. Even though he did all this hard work for this musical to be successful, he did not get the crowd that he expected to get. A total of only thirty people attended the weekend performances. He almost gave up but decided to give the performance one more try. In 1998, Perry rented out the House of Blues in Atlanta for I Know I’ve Been Changed. Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse is a series created and produced by him. It is based on one of his previous films, Why Did I Get Married? Tyler Perry’s House of Payne was a popular American sitcom produced by Perry. This series was about a family living together in a house in Atlanta. Another popular sitcom was Meet the Browns. This series is also about a family living up under one roof in Decatur, Georgia (Ranker).
