While I do agree with what Halle has said, I also noticed that chapter 7 has given myself and other readers great advice on how to analyze reading more efficiently. Something big that I took from the chapter would definitely be the annotating. Once I read the analytical essay written by Milena Ateyea along with the annotations made on the side, I saw that it made it easier to find exactly what you might be looking for rather than reading the essay again. When annotating, you get a greater understanding of the reading and a summarized version also. It would be great when having to refer back to the essay/article when answering questions or using the essay as supporting evidence for you own.

Every journey begins with one simple step. In Thomas Foster's, How to Read Literature Like a Professor, the first chapter Every Trip Is a Quest (Except for when it’s not), he explains that almost all stories have a quest, be it given or underlying. Each quest contains a quester, a place to go, a stated reason to go there, challenges they face, and the real reason to go (Foster 3). In Foster’s other book, Reading the Silver Screen, it shows the purpose behind their stories and the message behind the film by laying the rules down. As a reader one has to know what to look for and identify the main idea and understand what the author is trying to argue. Before taking Writing 10 I felt I was a good reader and able to identify the main idea in a prompt, but little did I really know. After going through the research process and trying to identify reliable sources I have essentially cut out the unnecessary information and I go straight to the idea or argument being made by the author. As of before, I would focus on every detail of the writing. Having been assigned readings and having discussions about the readings during class, I soon realized that writing is about an argument being made with supporting evidence.

The way I prepared myself for this book was on every page I had at least about three sticky notes stating the important facts and at the end of the chapter I had a one sentence summary stating the main idea opic of that chapter. This method I have found out has helped me the most it helps me remember certain things better due to my short-term memory loss. For my writing method, I tend to make outlines so I don’t get off topic. Both of my reading and writing method I have discovered for myself throughout my school years has helped me learn better and just in generally better myself academic wise.
While traveling towards the path of seeping knowledge and analyzing critical ideals, we’ve become absent minded towards the components that gave us the ability to read. Since reading is always a part of our everyday routine, we have lost the idea that when it comes to learning how to read, we must start from the basics. From reading a case study, to reading a letter from a loved one, comprehension, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and oral language are the six essential components of reading. Before a child develops the ability to read, they begin to develop comprehension. Comprehension can be defined as the ability to understand.
Part of my literacy experience was about learning an important lesson in a book and how each page carries a story that’s brought to life. At the time, I didn’t learn about learning critical literacy until I was in my English 91 class. In my English 91 class, I was taught how to use critical thinking in my papers. I imagine how much literacy has been involve in my life from childhood till college. The books I’ve read in my childhood is how I ‘ve taught how to write.
