What did Democritus believe about the atomic model? Democritus believed that atoms were small hard objects that were made of the same material and could have different shapes and sizes. He believed that they were constantly moving and have the capability to mix with each other. He said that everything was made up of atoms and that the reason everything was shaped differentially was because atoms are different. He was a philosopher and based his theory of the atom of logic not evidence. Democritus came up with the word atomos – (meaning cannot be cut further.) What was Dalton’s theory on the atom? Dalton's came up with a number of statements that he claimed for the atom. He was believed to be the first physicists to come up with an atomic theory and support his theory with evidence. Some of his statements are correct and are still used today. 1) “All matter is made of atoms. Atoms are indivisible and indestructible. - This theory was believed to be gather from the Greeks and other early scientist but it was incorrect. 2) All atoms of a given element are identical in mass and properties - Is incorrect 3) Differences in the properties of elements result from differences in the atoms of elements. - Correct 4) A chemical reaction is the result of …show more content…
As suspected by Rutherford most of the Alpha particles passed through the gold foil. What he didn’t suspected was when he shot a beam of alpha particles at a sheet of gold foil, a few of the particles were deflected. He concluded that a tiny, dense nucleus was causing the deflections. The particles deflected because the positive charge from the nucleus repelled the positively charged alpha particles. Rutherford came to the conclusion that the nucleus was very small considered to the size of the atom. This is shown from the amount of Alpha particles passing through the gold
