Chapter 7: To prevent her demon-child from being taken from her, and to provide the Governor with a pair of gloves, Hester and Pearl make their way to Bellingham’s mansion. The mansion has English-style furniture and symbols all around. It is ironic that the Governor has his mansion as such because it brings back everything the Puritan society tried to escape in the new world- prejudice and subjection.The corroding garden of the mansion shows Bellingham’s inability to properly take care of things-let alone the Puritan society. Looking into the armor surrounding the room, a reflection shows not Hester and Pearl, but the Scarlet Letter and the child born from it. This was yet another scene that the reader can further connect the Scarlet Letter
