A man’s pride can be his downfall, and he needs to learn when to turn to others for support and guidance. (Bear Grylls) Lady Macbeth and Macbeth will do anything for Macbeth to become the king. In the story Shakespeare uses blood and hallucinations as symbols to convey his theme that pride forces people to go too far, often pushing people to make choices that are irreversible. Blood represents guilt which conveys theme. After Macbeth murdered Duncan he said while talking to Lady Macbeth, “Will all great neptune’s ocean wash this blood clean from my hand? No this my hand will rather the multitudinous seas incarnadine making the green one red.” (II.i.59-62) Macbeth had just murdered Duncan and was starting to feel all of the guilt that comes with murder. Shakespeare used blood as a symbol because he knew that just like the guilt never leaving your side blood stains and wouldn’t come off of him no matter what he tried. He Ruined the rest of his life just to be king and just for the pride of being the king. He will never be that same, there will always be that guilt and his conscious will always be weighing on his shoulder.
