Metamorphosis Analytic Essay What would Gregor do if he quit his job? Gregor lives with his family who depends on him for financial income. He has no choice but to go to work with no days off so he can fulfill his parents’ and his manager’s wishes. Every morning he dreams about his hatred towards it, which slowly starts to show on the outside. In Franz Kafka’s novella, “The Metamorphosis”, the author uses characterization, conflict, and the plot to reflect the transformation into a “monstrous vermin”. Kafka uses characterization to show how Gregor’s transformation reflected his family’s transformation. Gregor’s transformation had caused his family to look at him as a pest. “He lay on his armour-hard back and saw, as he lifted his head up a little, his brown, arched abdomen divided up into rigid bowlike sections”. “With his left hand, his father picked up a large newspaper from the table and, stamping his feet on the floor, he set out to drive Gregor back into his room by waving the cane and the newspaper.” The evidence shows that when Gregor transforms into a bug, his parents don’t think of him as their child, but rather a nuisance.
