What makes someone an outsider? In Tulsa, S.E. Hinton went to a large high school and in all large high schools they would have different groups. Everyone would stay in their own groups as they grew up S.E. thought it was idiotic. She made the book The Outsiders which had the socs and the greasers S.E. would get letters from kids who told her they also had the two groups in there school but they had different names for them.
Have you ever felt alone or isolated from the world? Well from being in middle school, I’ve learned that some people feel as if the world revolved around them. They do things they never would’ve done. Yet, they still do it just to try to fit in the crowd. Outsiders are a common sources of topic throughout literature and are defined as people who differ from what society deems as normal or having normal qualities. Throughout the semester, we have read several works that use outsiders to help convey a certain theme or message and there was one particular work that stood out from the rest. While reading “The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me” by Sherman Alexie, the use of outsiders was incredibly effective due to Sherman using his own experiences of being an outsider throughout his life. The Outsiders make the readers think about if it is right to judge people because of social class, their family and how they look. The further you get into the book the more you think of the hardships of people judging you. There are multiple ways people judge you that are shown in the book such as family/friends and social class/ income. This reminds the reader about the civil rights movement, which is around the same time as when the book takes place. At the end of the book you get the message that being prejudiced is not the right thing.
Life is full of choices, choices here and choice there. some are small like what you’ll have for breakfast and others are big like whether you’ll finish high school. But are they really your choices? Are people really in charge of their life like they claim to be ? A statistic shows that 40% of children in America are raised without a father and 50% of children have experienced divorce by the age of 18.
It’s Not Universal Humans are social beings and, typically, we prefer to surround ourselves with similar types of people. Often times, this means excluding others and even outcasting them from society. Nearly everybody has experienced being an outsider. whether it was not knowing anyone at a new school to not having the “must have” item that everyone else seemingly had. The experience of being an outsider is not universal because the feelings associated with being outcast are circumstantial, people react differently, and people have varying degrees of introversion.
An outsider is a person who does not belong in a certain party or a group. An outsider is left out from parties, groups, and even sometimes they are not allowed near a place or person. Outsiders are not cool and people do not like them or are not drawn to them. Synonyms such as the odd one out, stranger, and refugee say it all. All of these words are example of what outsiders feel like or what outsiders are.
Everyone or, close to everyone was a outsider once and you should think you have value for example, as a kid it is very possible that you 've moved, moved schools,etc. Next, even as a young adult or, adult you could move away to a different city or state for college or, a job or, to start a business or, even to help people. Isn 't that some good value? Even though outsiders have value they still don 't think they have any for example, when a kid moves, or to a new school they feel bad they had to leave their friends so, they don 't try to make new friends so, the kids call him the “the new kid” which makes him feel like an outsider even though he has a lot of potential and ideas that he had from his other school.
A big conflict in the story is if they should turn themselves in or not. The way this starts is when they are eating ice cream at dairy queen and johnny says that he wants to turn himself in to the police. Dally thinks that it is a terrible idea. The way it is resolved is that they don 't follow through on turning themselves into the police because johnny got hurt. Then they were talking about in the news and the cops came to investigate.
Being an outsider is a common feeling among people of all ages. Anything can make someone feel like an outsider, whether it is their age, gender, sexuality, or race. In Premila and Santha's case from
People like to be different and unique, one wants to stand out. But trying too hard to exclude yourself and separate yourself yourself from the rest of society only leaves you lonely and an outsider. Not being able to connect with people is not “cool”. In the bildungsroman novel, The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky we follow the main character, Charlie, through the beginning of high school. The entire year the readers follow his story we also see how this type of isolation effects Charlie's mental health, and the differences in his mood when he is with his friends and when he is alone.
The first day of middle school for me was both terrifying and exciting. I made a lot of new friends within the year. I remember the first day very well. I had woke up at 5;30 a.m. I was extremely tired.
We all need to belong somewhere. Everyone needs people to be there for them. We need to adore our lives with others, rather it is our family, friends, coworkers, or just society alone. There are a lot of traits that makes everyone unique in their own way with some of these traits people can make you seem like you’re an outsider but it’s false.
This story emphasizes how isolation from any source, whether it be from the community, the family, or from the decisions we make are harmful not only to ourselves but others around us. The short story pleas for a call to arms to end isolation from such sources and to discourage people from isolating others because they are different. We can only succeed as a community when we celebrate one another’s differences instead of ridiculing those who dare to challenge the status
