The older I become, the more appreciative of my black heritage I become. I did not realize and fully understand what my ancestors have done for me and how they have paved the way so I could have a more enjoyable life. I keep hearing, "the slaves got killed if they were caught reading, the new generation wouldn't read if it killed them." As sad as this statement is, it also has a lot of truth and meaning behind it. My mother inspires me more than words will ever explain. My mother believes in me when I doubt and don't believe in myself. She has made so many sacrifices for me and I will do anything for her. When I was younger I were ungrateful and did not fully understand all that she did for me. She sends me care packages, sends me money, make sure that I am still doing well, helps me with financial things, teaches me about the adult world, helps me with my taxes, prays for me on a daily basis, motivates and encourages me not to drop the batton, and many other acts that are greatly appreciated and needed. My family is looking up to me, everyone tells me that they are cheering for me and to keep pushing no matter what I endeavor. It is not easy, sometimes I thinking up but failure is not an option. I have younger people looking up to me as a role model. I am showing them what to do and how to become an inspiration while being inspired. Everyday I tell myself that I am doing to make my weakness my strength, and that I am going to better better person tomorrow than I was today.
