“Unravel me” is a romance dystopian literature written by Tahereh Mafi that tells us the unraveling story of a seventeen-year-old girl named Juliette Ferrars. Throughout the book, Juliette is seen as a monster or a weapon of war by other people because of her lethal touch. Tahereh Mafi makes many symbols in the book, but two of the most common are the bird with the gold stripe and the book cover of "unravel me". The first symbol is presented in “Unravel me” was the bird with gold streaks. On page 28 Juliette says, “The dreams are back.” For the whole page she talks about having dreams about the bird with the gold streaks saying, “Only this time, it’s frozen. The inside of the eye shows a reflection of the bird, going back to the first symbol where it foreshadows the bird representing isolation and feeling stuck. As stated before the branches are covered in ice, where ice and cold symbolize the lack of love and death throughout the literature. On page 11 Juliette says, “A girl who spent most of her life in hospitals and juvenile detention center, a girl who was cast off by her parents, labeled as certifiably insane, and sentenced to isolation in an asylum where even the rats were afraid to live.” Juliette is trying to explain how she has never felt accepted or loved by anyone or anything.
