Symbolism of Colors in the Great Gatsby
Color is used as a symbol throughout the novel “The Great Gatsby” in a lot of ways. The most important aspects are characters, setting, & mood. These three aspects have huge impacts on how the novel is shared to the audience throughout the novel. Color is used in the novel to define the characters in a lot of ways. The colors show values of the characters. The color gold is used to define the wealth of the character. The color gold in the novel means richness, successful, valuable, & more. “At Gatsby's parties even the turkeys turn to gold. Turkeys bewitched to a dark gold" (Fitzgerald p. 41). This quote from the novel tells us how the color gold tends to put the image of something rich in our mind. The color grey is often used as neutral, dull, & not important.
