The Great Gatsby is a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald . It is about the “American Dream” is the emptiness of pursing. The main character Jay Gatsby attempted to chase after his idea of the American Dream. Daisy Buchanan, the object of Gatsby desires, discovers that being rich and living in the East Egg is not the American dream. Both characters are constantly reminded that they are being judged by Dr. Eckleburg's eyes. Throughout The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald conveys the aspects of Gatsby’s life by using symbols such as the colors yellow and white, the green light, and the eyes of Dr. Eckleburg. Fitzgerald uses symbolism to show that the colors gold, yellow and white represents wealth and innocence. In 3 chapter, on page 20, during Gatsby’s party, Nick says that the “turkeys on the buffet tables are bewitched gold.” Also chapter 7, page 99, Gatsby wears a golden tie when he sees Daisy at Nick’s house and Daisy refers as the “golden girl”, represents gold as traditional money and wealth. The color yellow symbolizes Gatsby’s yellow car that represents his desires to go to New York’s society.
