Symbols can mean a lot in today's society and they can change too. They can also be used in books and storytelling to change the feeling of a book. There are many symbols in the story “Lord of The Flies” by William Golding and these symbols change throughout the story of young kids try to find their way through surviving. The book starts with two kids finding a conch and when called every kid would come from the plane crash and gather together and discuss who is the leader and how they will survive on the island and get rescued. They all start with happiness not being with an adult and enjoy this and no one is dying or getting killed until argument, fear and separation, that brings things to disaster. Eventually they get rescued, but with guilt in all of their minds. Ralph says this after he sees a passing ship the did not see their fire because Jack and the hunters let the fire out, and hope of getting rescued is diminished. Later on they argue and fight who should have been up at the fire tending it and later on the symbol of hope comes because they feel more safe when the fire comes back. As the book goes on the fire has a new meaning and symbol to it and that is destruction of things and it all starts with Jack trying to smoke Ralph out of hiding and the destruction of the forest happens which also seems that Golding was trying to use the fire as if it were the boys starting off as hopeful but then turning bad and destroying each other one after
