John Proctor, Rebecca Nurse, and Giles Corey are all tried by the juries, and end up being hanged together. Even though their appeals of purity, both Proctor and Nurse are hanged. Giles Corey refuses to plead, for he believes that he will disinherit his belongings no matter what. As a conclusion of his inflexibility, he is sentenced to death. Abigail Williams accused Tituba and other people to liberate herself from danger.
Rebecca Nurse And Martha Corey was judged unfairly in The Crucible. Rebecca Nurse was accused for murdering Ann Putnam’s seven babies. When really her children died just from birth. The reason Martha Corey was accused for bewitching Dr.Walcott’s pigs with her books. Every time Dr. Walcott got a new pig, the pig would die soon afterwards.
In the book “The Crucible” John Proctor and Thomas Putnam have many similarities but also have many differences. Proctor is a moral man who is very high minded while Putman is a very wealthy and influential landowner, both of these men play a major role in the Salem witch trials. They both possess a desire for power and influence. These men are both very respected in the town. Proctor and Putnam provide a certain level of ruthlessness in their pursuit of their life.
However, she becomes a victim of witchcraft when the Putnams accuses her of dealing with the devil. “I am one of nine sons; the Putnam seed have peopled this province. And yet I have but one child left of eight-and now she shrivels” (Miller pg. 33)! Even when the Putnams accuses her of witchcraft, Rebecca Nurse remains honest as she replies, “I cannot fathom that” (pg. 33). In the end, she is hung for not confessing to the false accusation.
In Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible and in society, people tend to believe outrageous lies when those lies serve to better their own purpose. In Miller’s play The Crucible he displays the traits of lying for personal benefits and self-deception through two characters, Thomas Putnam and Abigail Williams. Thomas Putnam was a fairly wealthy man in Salem; he also had a lot of authority. When Mr. Putnam heard about the treacherous plots among the girls of Salem, he believed them even though they were irrational. However, he believed them because he could personally benefit from the lies.

One big central idea is false accusing of people, which is accusing someone of what they didn't do, and that's forbidden in Salem. Meanwhile, the vindictive Putnam who regards himself superior of most of the people around him, is thirsty for land and power.
Also, since The Crucible was written to be parallel to McCarthyism, the same idea is shown. The same situation can be seen in The Crucible as Arthur Miller was influenced by the events that occurred during McCarthyism. In the Crucible, anyone whose name that had been mentioned underwent an investigation and was asked to prove that they were not partaking in witchcraft. Because this task was impossible, the court made rash decisions such as sending people to jail or sentencing them to be hanged. This scenario is seen in the crucible when Rebecca Nurse is accused.
Rebecca Nurse was blamed for the death of all of Ann Putnam’s children, except for one. The events also caused numerous people to be convicted of witchcraft, some of them being executed. Two of the most notable people convicted in the play were John Procter, condemned for adultery and later hung, and Tituba, who confessed, saving her own life.
This is shown by Putnam’s attitude to his accuser and to his daughter. While he threatened to take legal action against Giles Corey for accusing him of the crime of and how he persuaded his daughter to lie and accuse George Jacobs for witchcraft. Putnam’s character conveys the theme that “ Jealousy and greed can be very destructive” because of how easily others in the village could find him guilty of a horrid crime that started with pure greed and jealousy. In “The Crucible” while in couselship with the other members of the court, Giles Corey makes an accusation against Putnam. He accuses Putnam by saying he “ coldly prompted his daughter to cry witchery upon George Jacobs that is now in jail” (Miller 96).

Fear plays an immense role in the way people make their decisions, such as when the characters of Danforth and Mary Warren resort to hypocrisy when no other options remain. Danforth and Mary Warren both embody hypocrisy, as seen when Mary says she cannot lie anymore and then lies when she becomes scared for her life, and Danforth when saying lying will send a person to Hell, but then forcing people to choose between lying and death. Mary Warren exemplifies hypocrisy extraordinarily well in the scene when she and Proctor travel to the courthouse so she can confess that the girls have pretended everything and they never actually saw spirits.
The Crucible Almost everyone in the play The Crucible has something to do with the hangings of John Proctor, Rebecca Nurse, Martha Corey and the other five people that were hung as well, but there were a select few that had a huge impact on the death of the protagonist john proctor 's death. These select few are the girls that were dancing in the woods which include Abigail Williams, Tituba, Betty Parris, Mercy Lewis, Susanna Walcott, Mary Warren, and Ruth Putnam. The others include Deputy Governor Danforth, Thomas Putnam, and John Proctor himself. The girls that were dancing in the woods are the ones that started everything. This is because they were casting charms to make the men they like fall in love with them.
