Why do people hold onto their past life? What makes people hold onto the past? There is something that we want to hang onto from the past. Or, we may cling to what we used to be. But, if we adhere to the past too much. We could start to go crazy. Like, we are reliving an event that took place. But, it all takes place in your head. Well, in Street Car Named Desire, there is a character named Blanche, that has lost everything and has been taken to her sister's house by a streetcar named Desire. As the story progresses, Blanche beings to show much of her past she clings onto. But, during points of the book, when Blanche is confronted with clinging on to her past. Someone clinging on to their past life can rely impacted based on how much they hold on to it. As for Blanche in Street Car Named Desired, She has clinched onto her past so much that she is now in a state of fear. In scene eleven Blanche is freaking out and, ¨What´s happened here?
I want an explanation of what´s happened here¨(Williams, Scene 11, page 146) But, Eunice and
Stella distract her by saying, ¨I understand you going on a trip¨(Williams, Scene 11, page 146).
All that Blanche does is asks, ¨Help me, help me get dressed¨ (Williams, Scene 11, page 147).
Banche does go on she feels for the trip. As she states, ¨I´m anxious to get out of here – this place is a trip¨(Williams, Scene 11, page 147). At this point of time Blanche truly thinks that she
is truly going on some vacation trip somewhere. This prime example of someone clinging to the past and reliving an event. But someone is in disbelief that it could be happening until they see it.
Someone may think that some is not trying to remain in their past until they see it. Like in
Street Car Named Desire, Stella is in disbelief about Blanche´s state of mind and what she has done, from when Stanley told her about it. But, Stella tries to say that they are a pack of lies.
